Brief Bio:
Fernando Luis de Araujo Machado, born in Garanhuns, Pernambuco-Brazil, married, three children. BSc in Physics (UFPE, 1978), MSc in Physics (UFPE, 1981), Ph.D. in Physics (UCLA, 1987), Pos-Doc and Adjunct Assistant Professor (UCLA, 1988), Professor of Physics at UNICAMP (09/1988-02/1989), Professor of Physics at the Department of Physics – UFPE till retire in 2020. Currently is a member of the Graduate Programs in Physics and in Material Science at UFPE, working in magnetism and magnetic materials – experimental. Published more than hundred and ten papers with over 2,700 citations. Among the main research results are the first heat capacity measurements in a quasicrystalline alloy and the discovering of the giant magnetoimpedance. Served as a Member of the IUPAP C9- Commission (Magnetism), as Member of the Editorial Team of Heliyon (Elsevier), Guest Editor of the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (Elsevier) for the ICMM2018 Issue and recently was invited to be part of the Editorial Team for the Special Topic Giant Magneto-Impedance Effect in Frontiers in Physics. Contributed largely for the administration at UFPE and served in the State of Pernambuco in positions associated to research and development. At UFPE was Coordinator of the two first years for the Science and Engineering students, Head of the Department of Physics, Coordinator of the Material Science Graduate Program, Coordinator of the Scientific Initiation Program-PIBIC, Director of the Graduate Programs and Head of the Graduate Program in Physics. Served also as Scientific Director of the State Funding Agency FACEPE, General Manager for Science, Technology and Innovation in Pernambuco and as Special Advisor for popularization of science in the Pernambuco State science museum Espaço Ciência.
